Round 3 – Keep the Romans
Nothing spectacular in Round 2, as our team gathered 150.8 points. Our recently acquired Roma players performed brilliantly, while OSMAN, RATAJ, WAHL and SOLIMAN delivered mediocre performances. Nothing too worrying, though, as they did not cost us any credits. On the other hand, our big hope MCCOY was injured after only 3’ in the game, while the selected Le Mans players fell below expectations for a second consecutive Round. On the positive side, we gained 1.4 credits, improving our financial position.
In the global ranking, we climbed more than 1,300 places and now sit in 1,166th position, while we remain 4th in the Real Hoopers Hub league. The Round winner was KillBill_7, who is also now leading the Real Hoopers Hub league. You can still join our League using the code: 197081-SR5PY.
For the Third Round, we will keep our coach and the two Roma players, MANNION and SIMONOVIC, as they face Balkan at home, who were destroyed at home by Bahcesehir. Balkan seem to be the weakest team in this year’s tournament, and we expect nothing less than 25 points from our coach. We are a little concerned about the rotation the team might use, but we believe that even with reduced playing time, both players should be able to deliver decent performances. We will also keep our prodigy SOLIMAN, our favourites WAHL and RATAJ, and, of course, OSMAN, who managed to collect 18.7 points despite a poor game.
We will trade MCCOY, and we hope he will be back in action soon, as well as PENDA and AJINCA, who have contributed very little over the first two Rounds. JARAMAZ will also leave our team. Although he is the main PG on his team, his PIR performances have been neither impressive nor consistent.
As for their replacements, we spent quite some time debating our strategy. Initially, we were targeting one expensive player who could deliver a strong performance, alongside three value picks priced between 6 and 9 credits. Players such as WOODS from Le Mans and AUDIGE from Skyliners were among our options. In the end, however, we decided to focus on players who have been playing more than 25’ for their teams and delivering solid PIR performances both in EuroCup and in their domestic leagues. We believe this approach will help us minimise risk—and, at the same time, avoid creating a bad reputation for ourselves with Le Mans players 😊.
Our budget was sufficient to bring in two players fitting this profile. For the other two positions, we selected undervalued players who play in the third Turn. We hope they will contribute to our overall budget without needing to be promoted into the first six positions of our roster.
Our first choice is Dayvion McKNIGHT (10,4 CR) from Siauliai. He has averaged 21.35 over the first two Rounds while spending more than 25’ on the court. His style seems to be that of a slasher: he draws plenty of fouls and gets to the free-throw line, while also contributing with assists.
Alongside him, we selected Javonte SMART (12.4 CR) from U-BT Cluj-Napoca. He is averaging 26.45 and playing more than 30’ per game, making him the undisputed star of his team. Although these two players face each other, we believe both can deliver strong performances, as neither team seems particularly focused on defence. Neither player tends to commit many fouls, so we should be relatively safe on that front.
Our other two selections are Radii CAISIN (5.3 CR) and Mo SOLUADE (4.7 CR). Both play around 20’ per game and seem to offer decent value for their price. Ideally, we would not need to use them, but they can serve as our last resort if one of our players in the first two Turns seriously underperforms.
Once again, we have only four players in Turn 1, but with three Turns available in this Round, we should have enough flexibility. Our captain will be OSMAN for Turn 1. If his performance falls below 20 PIR, we will switch to SMART or McKNIGHT. We have not made up our minds yet, so we will trust our instincts when the time comes.
Round 3 is about building on our budget gains while making smarter, more evidence-based selections. We are keeping our faith in the Roma players and adding two high-involvement performers who have shown consistency across competitions. Our cheaper picks give us some flexibility, and we hope they can increase their value without forcing us into difficult decisions. Let’s see if keeping the Romans pays off—and whether our new additions can push us further up the rankings!
