Round 4 โ Ciao Roma, Merhaba Ankara!
Our mediocre performances continued in Round 3, with only Tyler WAHL delivering a breakthrough performance. We gathered 147.95 points and gained 0.8 credits. The biggest disappointment was the poor performance of our Roma players and coach. It seems that Roma's new signing, former NBA player Kelly OLYNYK, has affected SIMONOVIC's role in the center position. Our young prospects, RATAJ and SOLIMAN, also failed to make any meaningful contribution with their performances.
In the global ranking, we now sit in 833rd position, while we have climbed to 3rd place in the Real Hoopers Hub league. HAVE YOU JOINED US YET?
Our first move this Round is to remove the coach, who needed overtime to beat Balkan, and SIMONOVIC, as we want to better understand the new reality and the changing roles in Roma's frontcourt. After a lot of thought, we also decided to remove the most expensive player in our team, OSMAN, along with SOLIMAN. One reason behind this decision was our desire to achieve a better balance between the two Turns, as almost all our players currently play in Turn 2. We also believe that OSMAN's high price is costing us credits, as he needs to deliver a PIR of 25 or more to contribute meaningfully to our budget. Of course, such performances are certainly possible, but we believe we can find players capable of delivering around 20 PIR at a lower price.
Finally, despite SOLIMAN's impressive start to the season, his role seems to be gradually diminishing, and his latest performances in both EuroCup and the French league have not been particularly encouraging. On top of that, he plays in Turn 2, where we already have several bets, so keeping him does little to minimise our risk. We also considered trading McKNIGHT, who was not particularly impressive in the last game, but since he plays in Turn 1, we decided to give him another chance.
Regarding the coach joining our team this Round, we decided to invest in a more expensive option. It is true that our choices in the first three Rounds failed to deliver maximum value, costing us both points and credits. We need a reliable contribution of around 20 points from the coach position. Therefore, for this Round, we selected Erdem CAN (8.7 CR) from Turk Telekom. The Turkish team have suffered two defeats so far and will certainly be looking for a win against Siauliai to stay close to the top of their group. Siauliai also lost at home to Riga in the Lithuanian championship, which gives us further reasons to be optimistic about Turk Telekom's chances.
Many of the players we would like to recruit are once again playing in Turn 2, so we had to explore other options. PLAVSIC, WOODS and OLIVARI remain on our radar.
Our first priority was to strengthen the center position, preferably with a player competing on Tuesday. Ismael BAKO (13.5 CR) will be our choice. He has been performing superbly, proving himself to be both a scorer and a dominant rebounder. In the previous Round, PLAVSIC enjoyed a productive night against Siauliai, so why shouldn't BAKO have a similar impact on Tuesday?
Our second choice is Justin GORHAM (10.7 CR) from Tortona. He plays around 30โ per game and takes plenty of shots. He was held in check by Aris in the last game, giving us an opportunity to take advantage of his reduced value. We also considered his teammate JALLOW, but GORHAM's offensive role ultimately convinced us to choose him instead.
Finally, with limited credits remaining, we selected an undervalued player whom we can easily replace with a bench option if he scores fewer than 15 PIR: Dordije JOVANOVIC (5.1 CR). He has been playing around 20โ per game in the first three Rounds, while Buducnost's next game is against Neptunas at home. We are hoping for a solid performance, along with the additional 10% bonus if his team wins.
We have four players in Turn 1, but we also have three strong alternatives for substitutions, plus RATAJ waiting on the bench. Once again, we hope we won't need to rely on CAISIN and SOLUADE. Our captain for Turn 1 will be MANNION, with SMART as our alternative for Turn 2.
Round 4 is about making some difficult decisions and finding a better balance between performance, budget and risk. We are moving away from Roma and investing in Turk Telekom, while strengthening our frontcourt with players who can contribute in both scoring and rebounding. Let's hope our new approach pays off and helps us climb further up the rankings!
